haysmacintyre has appointed Majid Hussain as a partner and new head of private client. A chartered tax adviser and barrister,  he joins from Evelyn Partners, where he was a partner, and brings a wealth of experience across all areas of private client tax. He has particular expertise in advising international families with complex overseas structures. Hussein takes over the role of head of private client from Katharine Arthur, who co-led the department for 11 years alongside Andrew Broome, who will both remain prominent partners in the private client team.

Crowe UK has appointed Adam Terry as a partner in the audit team. He joins Crowe with more than 15 years of audit experience and his specific focus will be corporate audit work. He specialises in supporting private equity backed businesses seeking rapid growth and value creation with an eye on a potential future exit. Terry will be based in the Kent office, which recently expanded with the acquisition of Dendy Neville.

PKF Littlejohn has promoted Wendy Liang to partner in its audit team. She has over 15 years of experience of auditing large multinational listed and privately owned companies across a variety of sectors with a focus on the technology, oil and gas, and natural resources industries. Her portfolio covers both UK and international clients, including those in China and neighbouring Asian countries.

Blick Rothenberg has promoted 76 people, including four partners and six directors. Annie Hughes has been promoted to partner in US/UK private client. She specialises in providing tax advice to internationally mobile Americans and individuals looking to move to the US. Trust specialist Lisa Gray has also been promoted to partner in US/UK private client. Gail Cobley has been promoted to partner in outsourced business services and is also chair of BRidge, the firm’s inclusive disability group for employees. Kish Shah has been promoted to partner in audit, accounting & outsourcing. He works closely with a range of clients, including privately owned businesses and subsidiaries of large international groups. The director promotions are Hayley Loft, Sarah Wilson-Nolan, Hayley Howell, Mark Edser, Kugan Panchalingam and Oliver Burton.

EY has appointed Ryan Squires as office managing partner for its Southampton office, following the retirement of Dave Hales after nearly 40 years of service with the firm. Squires joined EY in 2004 and was promoted to audit partner in 2019. He has worked with a broad range of listed and private multinational companies, and brings international experience from secondments to the US and Australia.

In Scotland, EY has appointed eight partners, including Will Asher, Mark Higgins, Laura Mitchell, Fiona Queen, Richard Rainey, Ross Robertson, and Mike Winn. Tom Sanders, who was appointed partner in the Aberdeen practice in 2022, has been promoted to equity partner. The new appointments bring the EY Scotland partner team to 87 and span a range of sectors and service lines including audit, tax, energy, corporate finance, technology consulting, and financial services.

Grant Thornton UK LLP has appointed Jo-Anne Allen and Heather Smallwood as global mobility tax partners and Ian Rowland has been promoted to innovation tax partner. Allen will be based in London and the south, and has a legal background and over 20 years’ experience in global mobility, specialising in supporting mid-market companies. Smallwood is a chartered tax adviser with a career in global mobility and international employment tax and social security spanning more than 25 years. She is based in Aberdeen where she specialises in the energy sector. Based in Manchester, Rowland has significant experience gained from over 20 years of working with businesses undertaking r&d across all sectors.

Armstrong Watson has announced that Karen Thomson will be returning to her role as partner and head of payroll based at the head office in Carlisle. She previously spent seven years at the firm developing the payroll service before leaving to head up AAB’s payroll service for two years. Thomson is also chair of the CIPP’s special interest group representing accountancy payroll bureaus and is vice chair of the Local Government Pensions Scheme (Cumberland).

Henderson Loggie partner and head of tax Kimberley Thomson has been appointed to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) Tax Board, which is instrumental in shaping tax policy and providing guidance to ICAS members and the broader public. She has been head of tax at the firm since 2019. The board meets three times a year and includes five committees focused on various tax areas, such as indirect tax, international and large business taxes, private client, devolved taxes, and owner managed business taxes.

Interpath Advisory has strengthened the leadership of its financial restructuring team with the appointment of Amanda Blackhall O’Sullivan as a managing director, joining the firm in early 2025. She has 30 years’ experience of providing distressed financial advisory services and delivering large scale complex restructurings to diverse stakeholder groups, and was a partner in the turnaround and restructuring strategy practice at EY Parthenon.

Alius Law has appointed Ben Drew as a partner in London. He joins from Fladgate where he was a partner and co-head of the insolvency and restructuring group. His practice focuses on disputes involving financial distress, insolvency and fraud with a focus on the financial services sector.

The Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA) has made changes to its senior management team. Jonathan Barber, former business development & membership director becomes executive director – UK, while CEO John Edwards moves to group executive – international. Tim Pinkney is promoted to director of professional standards from his previous role of head of practice standards. Kyle Baker-Kemp comes onboard as professional development and advocacy manager and has 13 years’ experience, previously as event programme manager at ICAEW.

PA Consulting has appointed Caroline Wayman as global head of financial services to lead a team of over 500 financial services experts across the UK, Europe, and US, advising organisations in the banking, insurance, pensions, and asset management sectors.  Previously Wyman was chief executive of the Financial Ombudsman Service for nearly seven years.

Translink Corporate Finance has made a number of promotions across its Yorkshire offices. Joe Briggs, Will Sykes and Luke Harrower have been promoted to M&A manager and Mathew Oldfield and Josh McCorrie have been promoted to transaction services manager and assistant manager respectively.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Véronique Sani as secretary general. Her appointment takes effect on 1 December 2024 and is for a five-year term, replacing Monica Ellis, who is retiring. Sani will head the general secretariat, one of the Bank’s four main departments and will be a member of the executive committee. She is currently president of Advasio Consulting and was most recently chief operating officer of Natixis, the global financial services subsidiary of BPCE, the second largest banking group in France.
