Crowe has appointed John Manis as a partner in the workforce advisory team, bringing over 15 years’ experience. He will further strengthen the practice with his depth of experience working with employee share schemes, employee ownership trusts, and advising management teams regarding M&A. Manis specialises in providing tax and executive incentivisation advice, with particular expertise in the taxation of investment funds, including carried interest and co-investment. Previously he was a partner at Evelyn Partners, and pre-name change Smith & Williamson. He is also a member of the income tax sub-committee of the Law Society.

PwC has named Daniel Chan MBE as charities leader as the firm continues to invest in the support it provides to the charity and voluntary sector. Chan, who was recently promoted to partner after almost 13 years with the firm, is audit leader for the government & health industries business at PwC. He is a specialist in audits for large, high profile charities, as well as working with FTSE 100 clients. He will take over from partner Aidan Sutton, who has been in the role for more than five years. Chan is also chair of the ICAEW charity committee, a member of the Charities SORP Committee and a member of the CIPFA charities and public benefit entities forum.

BDO LLP has expanded its partnership with the appointment of Jamie Smith and Omar Ali as partners. Smith becomes a partner in the financial services audit team and will lead the financial services audit practice in Bristol. He joins from PwC where he was a director and brings almost 20 years’ experience of providing audit and associated assurance services to businesses across the financial services sector. Ali joins as a partner in the audit team. He has significant experience of leading national and international teams to deliver on large audits within the technology sector. Previously he was an audit director at KPMG and will be based in BDO’s London office.

RSM has appointed Tom Stevens as partner to further strengthen its financial services audit practice. With over 13 years’ experience, he joins from KPMG’s external audit team, where he was a director and led the operational delivery of various large and complex audits of financial service organisations, including groups with UK listings or multi-jurisdictional reporting. Stevens will provide additional support and expertise to RSM’s financial services audit team, with a primary focus in London and the southeast.

Alvarez & Marsal has expanded its corporate finance practice with the appointment of Andy Moody as its first corporate finance managing director in Birmingham. He will spearhead the growth of the corporate finance practice across the Midlands, with a focus on the mid-market. Moody joins from Deloitte where he was a director, advisory corporate finance, and has more than 18 years’ experience, having advised on a range of private company transactions in the mid-market, including acquisitions, disposals, buy-outs and finance raising.

Clive Owen LLP has hired 15 tax, and audit and accounting associates, to strengthen and diversify its existing team – the largest intake of graduates in its 40-year history. Nine audit and accounts associates have been appointed including Holly Wentworth, Asher Jobby, Eleanor Burstow, Harley Sefton-Hayne, Sam Appleby, Joe Dunn, Emily Green, George Wrightson and Joe Callaghan. Christopher Stonehouse, Ashton Dawkins and Mollie McAleer join as tax associates, and Toby Meehan as IT associate. Will Rutterford joins the firm as an assistant management accountant while Andy Cope has started an audit and accounts placement. The graduate trainees will be given a bespoke training package which supports technical knowledge and enables office-based experience from senior team members.  Wentworth is returning full-time after completing a work placement at the firm’s Darlington office last summer.

Armstrong Watson has made a series of promotions and hires across its Yorkshire tax team. In corporate tax, Nicole Hilton joined the firm as a tax director, while Mel Harrison is now senior tax manager.  Janine Levine has been promoted to tax director. Meantime, further hires include senior private client tax manager Becky Fraser and trust tax manager Luke Pickering, while Ben Tetley has joined as VAT and indirect tax manager. Hilton was previously a corporate tax manager at Mazars, during which time she went on secondment to Drax UK.

PKF Littlejohn Advisory has appointed Robert Barker as insolvency manager to support the firm’s restructuring and insolvency capabilities. Barker brings over 15 years’ experience in the sector, working predominantly within boutique insolvency practices, and he will support the firm’s insolvency practitioners from appointment through to final resolution. Previously he was a senior manager at Smith & Barnes helping to facilitate the restructuring, sale or liquidation of SMEs in need of financial support.

Burgis & Bullock has appointed Helen Marshall as private client tax manager, based in the Leamington Spa office. She has more than 20 years’ experience in tax roles after starting her accountancy career as an apprentice and is ACCA qualified. She joins from a local accounting firm and will be managing a diverse client portfolio of high net worth individuals, owner-managed businesses and non-resident clients.

Sacker & Partners LLP, the specialist pensions law firm, has promoted Andrew Worthington to partner; Liam Goulding, Emily Whitelock and Lucy Swart-Mallett to associate director; and Sam Dalling to senior associate. Worthington is an experienced pensions lawyer who advises trustees, employers, and providers on a broad spectrum of defined benefit and defined contribution pension issues. He also has a particular interest in EDI issues and manages the firm’s relationships with LGBT Great and GAIN. 

Dentons has announced that its global board of directors and advisory committee have elected Kate Barton as global CEO, joining the firm in September. Barton will join Dentons from EY, where she has had a highly distinguished 35-year career in a variety of executive leadership roles, most recently as global vice chair and CEO of tax, law, and people advisory services. She will succeed Elliott Portnoy, the founding global CEO who term ends in November. He has been in the role since the firm’s launch in 2013.

Birketts has appointed Yasmin Metcalfe as principal, trusts & fiduciary, to head up a newly created trusts and fiduciary team. This will deepen its advisory and management offering to trustees of trusts, executors of estates and other persons with fiduciary obligations, providing tax and wider financial compliance services. Metcalfe has over 14 years’ experience, most recently at Foot Anstey LLP in Bristol, where she managed a portfolio of trusts, advising trustees and beneficiaries on technical tax and trust issues.

Accountancy Europe has appointed Eelco van der Enden as chief executive effective January 2025. He brings over 35 years of experience in senior leadership roles, most recently as CEO of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) where he led the organisation through major changes in sustainability reporting. Prior to that he was a partner at PwC and head of the firm's global ESG platform for tax, legal, people & organization services. He will take over from Olivier Boutellis-Taft who is stepping down after 18 years to focus on North Star Transition, an organisation he co-created as a response to the climate, biodiversity and social crises. Accountancy Europe is an umbrella body of 50 professional organisations from 35 countries across Europe representing around one million accountants, auditors and advisors.

Capco has appointed Anil Nanda as a partner and UK & Europe head of payments, based in London. In his new role, he joins the senior leadership team led by Tony Prestedge, Capco partner and formerly deputy chief executive at Santander UK. Nanda is an experienced leader with over 20 years of financial services and consulting expertise, most recently at Bain & Company, where he was an operating partner focusing on payments and financial services.
