EY has appointed Ajay Rawal as a partner within its financial services transaction advisory practice. Rawal joins from Alvarez & Marsal, where he was a partner in their European financial industry advisory services group.
Julia Penny FCA has joined training and consultancy specialist SWAT UK, as divisional director: technical. Penny was previously the content manager for audit and accounting at Wolters Kluwer, and has worked closely with ICAEW and AAT for some time. In her new role Penny will be involved in writing and reviewing manuals and other technical material and contributing to the public CPD and webinar programme.
Nordens, which won the company the ICAEW Training Firm of the Year Award 2015, has welcomed its first three partners. Joining business’ founder and managing partner Mark Norden are Joe Sword ACA, Panayiota Koshias ACCA and Mitch Hahn, business development executive, all of whom joined the firm as trainees, qualifying on the job via Nordens’ strategic staff development programme.
Medical research charity RAFT (Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust) has made two senior financial appointments. Dr Sally East joins as chief financial officer, bringing with her 20 years’ experience working with small and large charities, including SkillsActive, The British Heart Foundation and Amnesty International. Alison Baker joins as trustee and treasurer. An assurance partner at PwC, Baker has over 20 years of experience working with a variety of UK listed, international and private companies.
Mark Butler has become a director at Coventry-based Baldwins Accountants, while Caroline Finn has been promoted to audit manager.
Grant Thornton has appointed Sue Almond as head of assurance. Almond rejoins the firm following a career in the audit and assurance profession, having spent over 20 years with Grant Thornton previously until 2009. She was previously with ACCA, where she most recently led the association's external affairs programme. Almond takes over from Mark Cardiff, who is taking on the new position of head of practice development, focused on project implementation.
Richard Gwynne, a well-known figure in the field of commercial recoveries, has joined Spratt Endicott Solicitors from Shoosmiths LLP where he was director of commercial debt recovery, having worked for the company for 26 years. The move reunites Gwynne with his former colleague, Martin Hughes, non-lawyer partner and head of commercial recoveries. A member of the Institute of Credit Management, Gwynne also lectures on the subject of collection and the latest effects of legislation on the credit industry.
Peter Wilmer has joined Hawsons chartered accountants as corporate finance partner. He will head up the corporate finance team at Hawsons replacing Kevin Gregory, who has been at the firm for 15 years.
