Reduced headcount at HMRC has been
a problem for some time, says Nick Huber, and there’s more
to come
Shortly after chancellor George Osborne delivered plans of swingeing
cuts in his comprehensive spending review before the House of Commons
on October 20, an internal memo from HM Revenue & Customs’
chief executive Lesley Strathie was posted on the department’s
intranet – delivering the damning news about 13,000 full-time
departmental staff, who would be made redundant by April 2015.
