Alan Doig, 57, was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court on 2 October after pleading guilty to stealing £934,343.30 from Gedling Borough Council, through 86 fraudulent transactions over 19 years.

Between 2003 and 2022 Doig used his seniority to devise a ‘highly sophisticated’ system to send regular payments due to clients to his own bank account. Nottingham Police said he used his ‘knowledge of the organisation and his position of trust’, to get away with it for so long.

A colleague of Doig noticed discrepancies in the accounts causing an internal investigation to take place, which then confirmed the suspicion. This investigation found large sums of money were being transferred into two accounts linked with Doig.
