From April, UK companies involved in the production of high-end television programmes, animation or video games will benefit from new tax reliefs designed to be among the most generous in the world. In recent years, the trend has been for British programmes and video games to be made overseas. This includes high-profile dramas such as The Tudors (Republic of Ireland) and Birdsong (Hungary), and much-loved animation including Thomas the Tank Engine (Canada) and Bob the Builder (US). It is hoped that the new tax breaks will keep British programmes and video games in the UK and encourage foreign companies to bring work to the UK.
