Tearing down the barricades

The Davies report on women on boards calls for a transparent, diverse approach to corporate structure, says Fiona Hotston Moore

Research and common sense both provide overwhelming support for the business case for diversity in the workplace but, in my view, there are five major obstacles to real change and here are some useful ideas on how to overcome them.

The first is unconscious bias among senior and middle management. Individuals naturally feel comfortable working with those from similar backgrounds and this unfortunately means the bias continues despite the new generations entering the workforce.
