Time to axe excessive pay

Sir Michael Darrington is calling time on overpaid executives who have failed to return value to shareholders and the wider public

Growth in senior executive pay including that of the obscenely overpaid bankers has been at the expense of society and shareholders. I say this as a capitalist who believes in wealth generation.

For nearly 25 years, I ran Greggs bakery business up until I retired in mid-2008. During that time, the share price grew from £1.35 when we floated in 1984 to nearly £40 when I retired.
