Tips on tax filing for US taxpayers living abroad

Glenn Snow, tax director, USTAXFS, gives tips and advice on the key issues to consider when completing US tax returns for US taxpayers living abroad ahead of 15 June tax deadline

If you are a US taxpayer (citizen, Green Card holder or resident) living abroad, this time of year can be taxing in every sense and missing the 15 June tax deadline can be costly.

An automatic extension for filing your federal income tax return (18 April in 2023) gives you and your accountant until 18 June this year to get that all-important documentation to the Inland Revenue Service (IRS). This deadline applies to both US citizens and resident aliens living outside the US, including dual citizens.
