Tourist tax will make UK ‘unaffordable’ warn hospitality bosses

As half term arrives hospitality and leisure leaders tell the chancellor ‘holidays are for relaxing, not taxing’

Over 200 signatories from leading accommodation providers including Butlin’s, Haven, Hilton, and Travelodge warn that the proposed holiday tax will ‘hit families hardest, put jobs at risk and drain money from local businesses and communities’.

They warned of ‘significant damage’ to local communities across the country that rely on tourism, as fewer visitors would mean fewer local jobs and lower spending at local businesses.

The letter sent to the chancellor said the proposed tourist tax would mean visitors from the UK would face ‘an extra £100 or more for a two-week holiday in the UK’.

Signatories said this would force families to skip travel altogether, shorten trips or head overseas, spending their money elsewhere.
