Vape importers struck off after £15m tax evasion scheme

Duo from Glasgow handed lengthy director bans after importing more than 350,000 vapes disguised as medical equipment and failing to pay £15.2m in VAT, corporation tax and customs duty

Leanne Moynes, 37, of Rutherglen, and Kyle McGinness, 24, of Glasgow, were directors of YSK Enterprises Limited, with a registered office in Leigh on Sea in Essex; they operated a business importing vapes into the UK.

But when Border Force intercepted a shipment of 352,688 vapes at Harwich in March 2023 brought in by YSK, when the load was checked, they discovered the imported vapes were mislabelled as medical nebulisers. It then transpired that a multimillion pound tax evasion scheme was at play.

Both McGinness and Moynes have now been banned for nine years from acting as directors of any UK company.
