‘Weakness in framework’ causes student loan fraud

Higher education providers must take more responsibility for franchised partners by clamping down on abuse and fraud, MPs are told

With almost seven times the number of suspected fraud cases in franchised higher education providers than five years ago, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, chair of the Public Accounts Committee described this as a ‘systemic weakness in the framework’.

In a PAC hearing on student loans, Ben Lake MP questioned Chris Larmer, CEO of the Student Loans Company (SLC) on the use of data to combat fraudulent activity.
