WH Smith faces FCA probe after accounting error

The Financial Conduct Authority is investigating WH Smith after the accounting error involving misstatement of £30m in revenue at US operation

The FTSE listed retailer has released year end results after weeks of delay due to the misstatement of supplier income at the company’s north America operation.

WH Smith confirmed the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has ‘commenced an investigation into the company’, examining the company’s regulatory compliance after the US accounting problems were raised.

The FCA investigation will focus on WH Smith’s compliance with UK Listing Principles and Rules and the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

‘The Group is committed to cooperating fully with any engagement in relation to the North America accounting issue from any regulatory body or other authority,’ WH Smith said in a statement.
