Academy accounting

The government is doubling the number of academy schools this year. Ian Selwood and David Robertson outline the requirements for accountants

Although academy schools were first introduced by Labour in 2000 to raise standards in failing schools and there were 203 academies by the time it had left office, the coalition government has made the subject one of its flagship policies. It is estimated that there are likely to be around 2,700 academy schools by March 2012.
