Accounting firms turn to online auction site to win business

Accounting firms are starting to use online marketplaces to pitch and tender for new business, as more firms including KPMG and Deloitte sign up to online platform provider Blur

The number of large agencies and consultancies registered with the business services marketplace, which operates as an online auction site, has risen significantly, with over 2,000 joining in the last 12 months.

Clients can post bid details online for service providers to view and respond, and the process can be handled from their desk or through a mobile app.

Blur estiamtes that it has nearly 60,000 service providers signed up to the site worldwide, offering a range of consulting, technology, accounting and legal services. Of these, close to 3,000 are considered to be ‘enterprise level’ with more than 50 employees.

Jon Hogg, chief marketing officer at Blur, said: ‘A tender process that may have taken weeks or even months can be reduced to a few days.’

‘One of the common misconceptions is that online intermediaries only deal with small budgets and small suppliers. While this may have been true a few years ago, this is simply not the case anymore.’

The largest brief to be pitched through Blur’s marketplace so far was an £11.2m sponsorship project for We Are Wales Pro Cycling.
