In February the Charity Commission opened an inquiry into Stoke Air Ambulance Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

The regulator said the charity ‘did not have access to any aircraft or an established base to launch from’, nor did it ‘employ any clinicians or have the required approval from the Care Quality Commission.

‘Potential donors might reasonably believe their gifts would support a working service’, the regulator said opening the inquiry.

Now, six months after the investigation was opened, the air ambulance charity’s website states that the charity has shut down.

The trustees of Stoke Air Ambulance CIO stated they have ‘taken the decision to close the charity and commence an orderly winding-up process’.
