BDO director Anthony Appleton has been appointed director of accounting and reporting at the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) with responsibility for the delivery of standards and related guidance.

Appleton, who is a director in BDO's financial reporting advisory team, has been a member of the FRC's Accounting Council since May 2013 and previously held senior technical advisory positions at Big Four firms. He will take up his position at the FRC in January.

Melanie McLaren, FRC executive director codes and standards, said: 'Anthony joins the FRC at an important time as we seek improvements in international financial reporting standards, playing a full part in the international and European process, and implementing once in a generation changes to UK and Irish GAAP. Anthony brings a broad range of technical and leadership experience to develop the accounting and reporting team.'
