Budget 2014: Funding for graduate-level apprentices

The government is to provide more support for employers offering apprenticeships to young people, George Osborne has announced

In his Budget speech Osborne said the government will provide funding of £85m in both 2014-15 and 2015-16 to extend the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) scheme. This will provide over 100,000 grants to employers.

In addition, the government is to provide £20m over two years to support apprenticeships up to postgraduate level.

The extension of the AGE scheme will cost £100m for the next two years

Some 1.6m people have started apprenticeships since the coalition came to power with advanced level apprenticeship starts up 137% between 2009-10 and 2012-13.
