The Chartered Accountants' Benevolent Association (CABA) has launched two new, free career adaptability courses designed to help chartered accountants develop the skills they need to thrive in changing career conditions in the profession.
Developing Your Personal Branding explains how accountants can boost their impact and become more effective, confident and persuasive by discovering, creating and developing their own authentic professional image.
Boosting Your Emotional Intelligence provides the skills accountants need to develop their emotional intelligence to a high level, leading to increased self-awareness and improved relationships.
Each course lasts one day and is being run at venues in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, London and Manchester through to July.
The charity says its Career Adaptability strand has become the most successful element of its training programme over the last year. The two new courses follow the launch of four others during November - Building Your Resilience, Developing and Maintaining a Growth Mindset, Managing Personal Change Effectively and Planning the Next Step in Your Career. CABA said places for these were filled within a week of being announced.
CABA was prompted to introduce this new set of courses after research by Dr Hilary Lindsay found that, after professional competence, career adaptability was the most important element of lifelong learning for chartered accountants.
The research identified five attributes within career adaptability - engaging, exploring, experimenting, positive attitude and self-belief - which are needed if accountants are to adapt to changes in the workplace which will see them working longer, with less stability and possibly periods of unemployment, plus breaks to accommodate life events outside of work.
Lucy Whitehall, CABA wellbeing manager at CABA, said: 'Our set of courses now covers all of the areas identified by Dr Lindsay and their immediate popularity indicates that they have very much struck a chord with chartered accountants.'
