Mid-tier accountancy firm French Duncan has promoted Euan Ferries, a director in its corporate advisory team, to partner. Ferries, who works on corporate finance related assignments, has a particular specialism in securing public sector funding and, in particular, grants. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, he headed the finance function in a printing and signage business.

Peter Kane, currently Home Office finance director, has been named chief financial officer of the City of London Corporation, under the so-called role of 'chamberlain'. He is a CIPFA member and is the 80th person to hold the prestigious role, the oldest finance director post in the country, dating back to 1237. He succeeds Chris Bilsland as the director of finance, treasurer and chief financial adviser. Kane has also served in senior roles in the Cabinet Office, the Treasury and local government and is a member of the CIPFA Council. The position of chamberlain includes important civic and ceremonial responsibilities as well as the finance function.

Mayfair law firm Gordon Dadds has appointed Anna Coakes as an associate in its private client department. Coakes, who is dual qualified in the UK and Australia, will advise on inheritance tax planning and drafting wills as well as the administration of estates and trusts.

Three members have been appointed to the IFRS Advisory Council which advises the IFRS Foundation, the oversight body of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), on its strategic direction, technical work plan and priorities.

They are Olav Jones, deputy director general of Insurance Europe; Anne Simpson, who is senior portfolio manager at the Council of Institutional Investors; and Surya Subramanian, CFO for Emirates NBD.
