Companies House warning as ID scammers target directors

Ruthless scammers target company directors telling them to urgently verify their identity on register when they are actually trawling for passport and financial data

Companies House has issued a warning to company directors to be on the alert for scam emails pretending to be from Companies House telling customers to ‘verify their identity now’. The email starts with 'Dear Sir/Madam, This is a formal notification regarding your identity verification requirement...’

The emails are being sent from Gmail accounts, an immediate red flag and the wording is copied from legitimate Companies House emails. It is easy to fall for the scams if people are rushed, but it is critical to check the email address the missive is sent from before clicking anything.
