Confidence still weak despite 0.6% growth

The last quarter saw a 0.6% rise in GDP, while for May alone it grew by 0.4%, before flatlining in June despite Euro football boost for pubs

Q2 experienced growth of 0.6%, after positive growth of 0.7% in Q1. This was mostly supported by an 0.8% increase in the services sector, while construction and manufacturing held GPD back from growing further, both falling by 0.1% over the three months.

The accountancy sector's revenue took a hit for the second month in a row, falling 2.2% in June to £3.57bn.

Julie Matheson, partner at Kingsley Napley said: ‘Despite the wider economy showing slight positive growth in June, the accounting industry continued to be under pressure, more marked in fact than performance in other services, notably the legal sector.

‘It must be hoped that the end to election uncertainty and recent interest rate cut will feed through to a more rosy picture for accounting in the next set of ONS figures.
