HMRC's monthly tax take has risen sharply since before Labour entered government, with total receipts increasing from £61.8bn in September 2023 to £75.8bn in September 2026. The £14bn increase has been driven by stronger receipts from employment taxes and corporation tax.
One of the largest contributors was corporation tax, with receipts rising from £13.8bn in September 2023 to £17.9bn in September 2026.
Looking at the figures on a rolling 12‑month basis, corporation tax receipts increased from £89.4bn in the year to September 2024 to £101.4bn in the year to September 2026, a rise of £12bn, or 13%.
Tom Goddard, assistant manager at Blick Rothenberg said: ‘Corporation tax receipts were particularly strong in September, the second highest monthly figure on record. The result was supported by quarterly payment deadlines and demonstrates the resilience of many UK businesses.’
