Bill Dodwell, head of tax policy at Deloitte, has been named vice president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and will take up the new role from May 2014.

At the same time, CIOT confirmed that current deputy president, Anne Fairpo, will step up to the role of president from May (succeeding Stephen Coleclough), and current vice president, Chris Jones, has been named deputy president.

Dodwell said: 'I am honoured to have been asked by colleagues on the CIOT Council to serve as an officer of the institute. The CIOT has an important role to play in promoting greater public understanding of the tax system and I look forward to contributing to its continuous development.'

Welcoming the appointment,Stephen Coleclough, current CIOT president, said: 'I am delighted that Bill has agreed to join the institute's team of officers. His deep understanding of international corporate tax issues is second to none. As chairman of the institute's technical committee he has already been at the forefront of the institute's policy work and engagement with government.

'Bill is already rightly established as one of the most high profile UK tax professionals. He maintains a regular presence within the media and public life, and uses such opportunities to develop a greater understanding of complex tax issues.

'When it comes to explaining why it is that companies pay the amount of tax that they do, and busting some of the myths that float around this area, he is one of the best in the business.'
