HMRC’s new PAYE system
Despite the positive profile projected on its website, HM Revenue
&Customs’ National Insurance and PAYE Service (NPS) has
produced plenty of problems and a selection may be found at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/nps.htm. HMRC has also
set up a National Insurance and PAYE Service Forum for representatives
of employer bodies to air these issues.
More PAYE penalties next year
The Finance Act 2009 introduced a new penalty regime for unauthorised
late payment of PAYE and NICs that is scheduled to come into force
from April 2010. Preliminary guidance is in a new factsheet at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/factsheets/fpl_1.pdf.
