Essex family jailed for ‘systematic and repeated’ £150k fraud

Father and nephew jailed for multiple bounce back loan fraud using money for private school fees and house renovations

Kashid Rashid, 53, from Ilford, his wife, Noreen Malik, 46, nephew Rehaan Mohammed, 32, and his brother Rizwan Haider, 61, used a number of fake companies to fraudulently apply for three £50,000 bounce back loans during the pandemic, breaking all the rules on eligibility.

Two of the members of the family were given custodial sentences at Southwark Crown Court last week following an earlier five-week trial. Rashid, who used nine different names over the last decade and has previous fraud convictions in the US and Romania, was jailed for six years and three months. His nephew Mohammed, also from Ilford, was jailed for three years. Rashid’s wife and brother, Malik and Haider were both given two-year suspended sentences.
