EY appoints new global chairman and rebrands

Mark Weinberger has been appointed global chairman and CEO at Ernst & Young, which has undergone a global re-branding.

He succeeds Jim Turley, who has held the top position for the last 12 years and retired last month after a 36 year career with the firm.

Weinberger was previously EY's global and Americas head of tax and served on the global and Americas executive. He has been a senior advisory partner for many of EY's largest clients and has also played a role in US public life, as the assistant secretary of the US Treasury (tax policy) under President George Bush and serving on the US social security advisory board during President Clinton's time in office.

Weinberger said: 'It is a privilege to lead this great organisation in these dynamic times and I'm looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead.'

The firm has announced it will now use EY as its global brand name, and has unveiled a new logo. Weinberger said shortening the name 'will provide consistency and ease of use for EY practices and clients around the world', while the re-branding exercise is designed to 'demonstrate clearly and boldly who we are and reflect the goal we have recently set ourselves to be the number one brand in our profession'.

In addition, EY is adopting the phrase 'Building a better working world' as its purpose, which will become the firm's tagline.

Weinberger said: 'We know that building a better working world is an ambitious objective but it is an incredibly important aspiration and will be front and centre of everything we do as an organisation.'
