FCA manager cannot work from home full time

A senior manager working for the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has lost a tribunal claim over a request to work from home permanently

Elizabeth Wilson has worked for the financial regulator since 2005 and earned around £140,000 as a senior manager on an office-based contract.

When the first pandemic lockdown started in March 2020, the FCA told all staff to work remotely. Post covid the regulator decided that all employees should spend 40% of their time working in the office at which point Wilson made her flexible working application.

She submitted the application under section 80F of the Employment Rights Act 1996 in December 2022, requesting a change to her terms of employment to work remotely on a permanent basis.
