As a competition probe rattles the
Big Four, James Roberts says the profession needs to sharpen its lobbying
skills and reject polarised views
With the provisional decision to refer the larger audit market
to the Competition Commission, the profession should move on from
the bluster and posturing that has characterised the opposition to
any change in the audit market structure and its dynamics. Without
doubt, the competition authorities have a sizeable piece of work on
their hands. They will need support and co-operation, but some of
the effort that has gone into lobbying could now be put to better
use.
