Head of audit regulator quits for HS2 job

The head of the audit regulator Sir Jon Thompson has resigned from the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) to become chair of HS2

The move comes as progress on plans to reform the audit market and reorganise the regulator as the Audit, Reporting and Governance Authority (ARGA) have been delayed with no signs that the government plans to push through the important regulatory changes to create the new audit watchdog. It is now at least three years since the reorganisation was first proposed following a string of audit scandals and corporate collapses from Carillion to Thomas Cook and Patisserie Valerie.
