John Whiting awarded OBE

PricewaterhouseCoopers partner John Whiting has been awarded an OBE for public service in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Whiting is a past president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and is currently chairman of its management of taxes sub-committee.

CIOT president Nick Goulding said: 'This honour recognises the work he has done to raise the profile and standing of the tax profession and, especially, further the understanding of the UK tax system.' Goulding added: 'John can take a complex tax issue and make it accessible to journalists, politicians and the public.'

Whiting is also a regular broadcaster on tax issues on TV and radio.

At the same time, CIPFA announced a number of awards among its own members.Tim Burr, comptroller and auditor general at the National Audit Office has been made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. Michael More, now chief executive of Westminster City Council, but until recently chief executive of Suffolk County Council, received a CBE; Jane Scott Paul, chief executive of the Association of Accounting Technicians, received an OBE, and Vic Allison, deputy managing director of Wychavon District Council, picked up an MBE. Among ICAEW members, Michael Balfour was given an OBE.
