KPMG crafts new deal for soft furnishings business

Will Wright, Paul Flint and Brian Green, partners at KPMG and joint administrators of Montgomery Tomlinson Ltd, have completed a going concern sale of the 50-year old soft furnishings business within two weeks of its collapse last month.

Montgomery Tomlinson Ltd is a supplier and retailer of custom-made curtains and accessories, with concessions in 123 department stores and retail outlets, and a factory and warehouse facility in Wales.

The joint administrators have sold the business and its assets to Montgomery Furnishings Ltd which has been set up and funded by Amin Amiri and his investment company, a2e Venture Catalysts Ltd.

Montgomery Furnishings Ltd has said it is looking to safeguard the jobs of a large proportion of the former Montgomery Tomlinson workforce, with the intention of increasing the headcount in line with targeted trading.

Will Wright, joint administrator and restructuring partner at KPMG, said: 'Since our appointment two weeks ago, we have been working tirelessly to ensure a sale of the business in order to minimise disruption to customers. We are particularly pleased that the sale opens up re-employment opportunities for a number of Montgomery Tomlinson's former staff.'
