London pubs bought out of administration

The assets of a London pub firm have been sold out of administration - securing the future of 12 pubs and more than 200 jobs.

Gregarious Ltd has bought the assets and leaseholds of Antic Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

Joint-administrators Richard Toone, David Oprey and Kevin Murphy from Chantrey Vellacott DFK had been running the business since 14 January and managed the sale.

The pubs include Balham Bowls Club, Graveney & Meadow, Royal Albert, Tiger, Wheatsheaf, White Hart, Pepper Saint, Bohemia, Stapleton Tavern, Battersea Mess and Music Hall, King's Head and Jam Circus.

A further pub, the Acton Arms, was closed in January, when the tenancy agreement was terminated due to poor performance. Three members of staff were made redundant and a further four relocated to other sites.

A further unit in the Bon Marche shopping centre in Brixton which had never traded, has been excluded from the deal.

Toone said there had been significant interest in the pubs with more than 20 formal offers received by the administrators.

'A lot of hard work has been done to get this sale over the line, and we're delighted to complete a sale of 12 sites, which includes the transfer of over 200 jobs.

'The pubs are very popular and since our appointment we received in excess of 20 formal offers. We're pleased to have finalised a deal with the director of Gregarious and are confident the new owners are well placed to stabilise the leases at each of the pubs and make them a success again,' he said.'

Gregarious was formed by Max Alderman with backing from funds under the management of Downing LLP.
