The research by the House of Commons library, which was commissioned by the Liberal Democrats, found that HMRC estimates that those working in the health and social care industry pay 12% of UK aggregate pay.

This means that health and social care workers will be paying 12% of the expected £7.4bn which will be raised from employees with the increase which is £900m. The overall figure that is expected to be raised is £16.4bn.

The report states that this figure does not include those in the industry who are self employed meaning the real figure is likely to be even higher.
