IS Open source software a viable
substitute for off-the-shelf packages, asks Lesley Meall
When Aalco Metals wanted to streamline its service centres and
integrate disparate legacy accounting and trading systems, it opted
for a data integration system from Talend. When Aspiro’s online
music business outgrew its business intelligence software, the multimedia
company selected a replacement from Pentaho. When Fox Electronics
wanted to improve its product lifecycle management and international
shipping and tracking processes, it chose Aras for the job. All of
these systems are based on open source software (OSS), they’re
all strategic, mission-critical deployments that are highly visible
within the enterprise, and they’re indicative of a growing
trend.
