PwC has added to its deals practice with the appointment of Jon Roe as partner in the value creation and realisation team. He returns to the firm after nearly five years at global consulting firm Ankura where he led the infrastructure and project advisory business. He has over 20 years’ experience working with infrastructure and capital-intensive organisations. Ben Bird has been appointed as media and entertainment sector leader in its TMT practice. He joined PwC 18 months ago as a partner in the operational restructuring business.

BDO LLP has appointed Christian Bower-Sloane and Gary Fensom as partners. Bower-Sloane joins as audit partner in London with 17 years’ audit experience working with complex private and listed businesses within the technology, media and telecoms sector. He joins from KPMG where was an audit director. Fensom joins as a partner in the financial services audit team. He has almost 20 years’ experience and has extensive knowledge working on asset management audits and is a Client Assets Sourcebook (CASS) specialist. He also joins from KPMG where he was an audit director and will be based in BDO’s Glasgow office, continuing the recent investment and growth in the Scottish financial services team.

Azets has strengthened its national risk assurance practice with the appointment of Ruth Ireland as partner, focused on the south of England. In her new role, Ireland will advise businesses and their owners on all aspects of governance, risk and internal controls. Previously she was a partner at BDO.

DTE Business Advisers has promoted Kate Hughes and Richard Askey to partner. The promotions reflect DTE’s commitment to developing their people, with both initially joining as trainees and working their way up to partner. The promotions caps an exciting year at DTE, as they became part of accountancy group, DJH.

Wbg has promoted Neil Clark and Siobhan Archibald to managers in the internal audit team, supporting the firm’s strategic succession planning policy of promoting from within the business.

Grunberg & Co has hired five new starters to grow the tax team. Umer Soomro has been appointed as a tax senior and brings five years’ experience in private client tax compliance and advisory work. Previously was a private client tax advisor at Duncan & Toplis. Graduates Mark Salim and Harrish Illankovan have joined the audit and accounts and tax teams, respectively, as associates. School leavers Roland Ahmeti and Aidan Sexto have come on board as audit & account assistants and both will undertake the firm’s structured training programme as they work towards AAT’s Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

McGills Chartered Accountants has appointed Ollie Joseph and Bobby Trivett as apprentices. Joseph joins as an accounts apprentice and is currently completing his Level 2 AAT qualification. Trivett joins as a tax apprentice after completing his A-Levels and is also working towards AAT Level 2.

Property finance lender MSP Capital has promoted Nicky Hollamby and Lee Merrifield to its board of directors. Chartered accountant Hollamby has been promoted to finance director and chartered banker Merrifield to director of credit. Hollamby is responsible for driving the direction of the group’s strategic funding programme, building on its relationships with institutional investors. Before joining the firm in 2019, she worked in practice as an auditor at Grant Thornton and Forvis Mazars. Previously at NatWest, Merrifield has over 30 years’ experience specialising in funding solutions and credit appetite.
