RSM UK has appointed David Shambrook as a partner in the restructuring team within consulting based in the London office. He has 18 years’ experience in restructuring and has led on various advisory, turnaround, rescue and restructuring projects. He was previously a partner at FRP Advisory, where he helped to develop the restructuring and advisory teams. He has particular sector expertise in care, financial services, manufacturing, construction and real estate. He has also previously undertaken secondments at Lloyds Bank and Santander. At RSM, Shambrook will focus on growing the firm’s corporate restructuring practice and strengthening its offering to upper mid-market businesses.

BDO has appointed two partners, Ciaran McLaughlin and David Yewdall. McLaughlin joins as an audit partner in the firm’s East Anglia region and has over 30 years’ experience in public sector audit and assurance. He will work closely with audited entities across local public and government sectors and will be based in the Ipswich office. Previously he was a director in the public sector audit team at Grant Thornton. Yewdall will be based in the London office and joins as partner in the expatriate tax and global employer services team. He has significant experience working with businesses on global mobility management, domestic employee tax and employer compliance. Before joining BDO, he was a partner at Evelyn Partners.

Johnston Carmichael has strengthened its leadership team with seven senior promotions across Scotland and the north east of England. Business advisory specialist Raemond Jappy, who is based in Aberdeen, becomes partner, and there are six director promotions: Lisa Thomson, Louise Mair and Allyson Banford in the audit team, Jordan Haldane, financial reporting advisory services, Greg Sutherland in tax, and Glen Small in the VAT and duty team.

Cowgills has made a senior promotion in its deal advisory team in Manchester. Brad Seekings has been promoted to director to focus on growth in M&A activity and joins the leadership team. He joined the firm in 2021 from Grant Thornton. Meantime, also in the deal advisory team, Richard Hunter has been promoted to associate director and Tom Roberts to senior executive. 

WBR Group has appointed Matthew Evans as executive director responsible for growing the firm’s tax practice and developing strategic partnerships. He has almost 30 years’ experience in the financial services and tax sectors, with particularly expertise in small self administered scheme (SSAS) pension planning. Previously he was a partner at RSM, where he led the East Midlands private client tax team.

Evelyn Partners has appointed Bindesh Sajvani as chief risk officer and group head of compliance, and a member of the senior leadership team. He has joined Evelyn Partners from Pendal Group, the owner of J O Hambro Capital Management, where he was global chief risk officer. He is a qualified accountant and worked at EY, where he was a senior consultant in the business risk consultancy practice. His career has included senior risk and compliance roles in subsidiaries of Lloyds Bank, Aviva and Aberdeen Asset Management.

Beever and Struthers has appointed Ann Bibby as tax partner in the Birmingham and Manchester offices. She has over 25 years’ experience as a chartered tax adviser and qualified accountant, specialising in business and personal tax. She specialises in advising entrepreneurial businesses and their shareholders, from start-ups through to exit and sale transactions. Previously she was a partner at Ellacotts LLP and originally trained at Mazars.

Alexander & Co has strengthened its tax team with seven promotions and hires in the Manchester office. Matt Lenney has been promoted to tax manager, having previously worked in the audit and accounts department. Chris Rex ACA CTA joins as a tax manager in the tax advisory team with six years’ experience from Semilliam Accountants in Manchester. Cody Goldsbrough joins the private client tax team as a tax senior with nine years’ experience, most recently at Jon Child & Co. In addition, four graduate tax trainees have joined the firm, including external hires Robyn Ormesher, Tara Phethean and Jude Kehoe, while tax administrator Loren Fisher has been promoted to the graduate programme.

PwC has selected Mohamed Kande as the next chair of the PwC global network. His four-year term, which has been ratified by PwC’s worldwide network of member firms, will commence on 1 July 2024. Kande, who has worked at PwC since 2011, is a member of the network’s global leadership team and has served as global advisory leader since 2019. In addition, he is the co-leader of US Consulting Solutions. He has over 32 years of professional services experience and a wealth of multi-industry and multi-disciplinary experience.

Mazars has appointed Eric Cloutier as partner, global head of banking regulations. He will be responsible for expanding the firm’s banking regulations offering and as part of this, he will strengthen the collaboration between Mazars’ international offices to develop the firm’s regulatory and advisory capabilities. Cloutier will also be responsible for maintaining and developing Mazars’ relationships with banking regulators and supervisors. He has over 22 years’ international experience in senior leadership roles and joins the firm from KPMG where he was a partner in the European central bank office, having previously been head of regulatory banking.

KPMG International has appointed David Rowlands as global head of AI and in this newly created role, he will collaborate and coordinate with specialists from across the global organisation to help drive and implement KPMG’s AI strategy. He will also help member firms to embed and adhere to the strong governance outlined in the KPMG Trusted AI approach, built on the principles of fairness, transparency and accountability. Most recently, Rowlands was head of consulting for KPMG in the UK, sitting on the UK executive committee and the global advisory steering group.

Cash deposit platform Flagstone has bolstered its senior management team with the appointment of Ruth Jakobsen, a senior finance professional with experience in high-growth scale-up companies. She has a wealth of senior strategic experience, accumulated over a 20-year finance career and originally trained as a chartered accountant at PwC. Previously she was a CFO at fintech Acin.

The trustees of the IFRS Foundation have announced that Emmanuel Faber will serve a second three-year term as chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), when his current term ends in December 2024, giving clarity to the market about stability and continuity of the ISSB’s leadership. The ISSB will continue to engage with jurisdictions on regulatory adoption of the new sustainability standards, supporting companies with implementation and other technical activities. His second term will start on 1 January 2025.
