Cooper Parry has promoted Carolyn Pears, finance, and Salvatore Mingoia, origination, as partners to support growth following investment from Waterland Private Equity in July 2022. While leading a large part of the finance team, Pears has been instrumental in supporting the firm’s strategic and growth ambitions, with crucial financial guidance and control. Mingoia was previously at Grant Thornton and joined Cooper Parry as head of new business development in July 2021, going out to the market and winning new and strategically important business.
UHY Hacker Young has appointed Nick Donohue as tax partner, based at the Manchester office. A member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Donohue has over 25 years’ experience as a tax adviser and has worked across all areas of tax with a particular interest in company share schemes, group re-organisations and research and development claims. Prior to joining UHY, he was a tax director at Royce Peeling Green, and he has spent his career working for regional firms advising over numerous sectors.
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Imran Khan as its first tax managing director in Manchester, to help expand the firm’s transfer pricing practice. Khan has over 20 years of tax experience, specialising in transfer pricing matters. He will be based in Manchester, covering the north region, while continuing to support clients across the Midlands and the south. Previously he spent five years with Grant Thornton in the Thames Valley region, where he worked with a number of tech, fintech and data analytics businesses in the mid-market fast growth space. Before this, Khan spent five years with Deloitte in the Midlands where he focused on the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
Cowgills has promoted Nilesh Modhvadia to partner in its audit and advisory team, taking the firm’s partner number to 23. Modhvadia joined the firm in 2018 as audit director, with previous audit and advisory roles held at RSM and at a top 50 Manchester based specialist practice. He has a strong audit background, business advisory and commercial knowledge, and will support the firm’s SME portfolio. The audit and advisory team has grown by 22% in the last year with 12 trainees joining the firm in September.
HW Fisher has appointed Andrew Tall as corporate tax partner. He is ACA and CTA qualified and has more than 25 years’ experience managing a range of clients, from micro-companies and non-resident landlords to large multinational groups. Tall joins HW Fisher from Greenback Alan LLP and advises on a full range of corporation tax services from R&D claims to M&A due diligence, and transaction tax planning. Alongside his day-to-day practice, he also sits on the ICAEW SME business tax committee, and the compliance and interventions committee of the Tax Faculty. He is also an ICAEW representative on HMRC's compliance reform forum.
Wright Vigar has promoted Josh Bowden to associate director. During his time with the firm, Bowden has been at the forefront of driving change and progress, and has been instrumental in the successful implementation of software solution for audits, enhancing the firm's capabilities and efficiency. He is also chair of the audit committee, and he plays a pivotal in shaping the firm’s audit practices and compliance work.
Albert Goodman has hired chartered accountant Sam Wood as a senior manager, working at the firm’s newly opened Bristol office. In his new role, he will specialise in R&D tax for SME & RDEC businesses in all sectors and will be responsible for providing clients with specialist consultancy advice as well as wider corporation tax support. Previously he was a senior tax manager at ForrestBrown in Bristol for five years and has general practice experience across accounts, audit, corporate and personal tax, as well as specialist knowledge of R&D tax reliefs.
DSG Chartered Accountants has hired two key members to its growing team. Adam Brighouse returns to DSG as a corporate finance manager after spending four years with the firm as corporate business advisor before moving to long-standing DSG client Bullen Healthcare as head of operations. He will play a vital role in developing DSG’s corporate finance service, advising a diverse range of clients. Matt Bailey has joined as an audit director, bringing with him over a decade of experience in the industry. His previous role was at Hiller Hopkins LLP, where he led the audit team. The new hires come at a pivotal moment for DSG as the Liverpool-based accountancy firm completed several significant client deals.
HURST has strengthened its tax advisory team with the arrival of Jennifer Escott and Henry Misell from EY and KPMG respectively. Escott, a tax senior, worked at EY from 2018 and is an experienced adviser on indirect taxes. She will be supporting the firm’s managers and partners on a range of projects to deliver tax advisory and compliance work to clients across numerous sectors. Misell completed an initial apprenticeship with KPMG and most recently specialised in share valuations.
Avalara has appointed channel leader Meg Higgins as senior vice president of global partners. In her new role, Higgins will be responsible for growing Avalara’s channel and technology partner business. She has been at Avalara for four years and most recently served as VP and general manager of global partner business development and strategy and oversaw the acquisition of new partners and commercial negotiations. With more than 20 years of experience in the technology sector, her experience includes more than a decade of leadership roles at Pitney Bowes, where she co-founded the company’s global ecommerce business unit.
Startline Motor Finance has appointed Alan Greer as head of finance. He will be responsible for managing and developing the finance function of the business, and contributing to its overall growth strategy and business plan by delivering value-added insights from a financial perspective. Previously he spent more than 20 years at Clydesdale Bank and Virgin Money, including senior roles in reporting, planning, capital management and corporate finance. Most recently, he worked for 18 months in EY’s strategy and transactions team specialising in due diligence for deals involving financial services clients.
Sigma7, a global risk information and services company, has appointed international insurance and risk consulting and banking leader Owen Belman as chief executive officer. Belman joins Sigma7 after 12 years leading global professional services firm Aon’s operations in Asia. The UK and US dual-headquartered firm helps businesses across sectors transform their risk programmes.
