People in the news: FRC, PwC, Mercer & Hole

Mark Babington has joined the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) as deputy director of audit policy, while Crowe Clark Whitehill hires ex Grant Thornton partner Jane MacKay

Scott-Moncrieff has appointed public sector finance expert Gary Devlin as partner. He joins from Grant Thornton, where he headed up the firm’s government and not for profit sector practices in Scotland and Northern Ireland. 

Mark Babington has joined the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) as deputy director of audit policy. He was previously with the National Audit Office, as director, HMRC financial audit and strategy

Grass Roots has appointed  Zarin Patel, previously  CFO, to the role of chief operating officer (COO), incorporating the group finance function. Patel has significant operational and financial experience, and joined Grass Roots last year following a move from the BBC, where she was their longest-serving CFO.

Crowe Clark Whitehill has announced the appointment of Jane MacKay as a partner. MacKay moves from Grant Thornton where she headed up transaction tax for the Thames Valley, and returns to the firm after nine years, having previously been a senior tax manager  there.

Nicholsons has rehired accountant Sally Dickinson after a break of five years working in business. The certified accountant originally worked for the Lincoln firm for 17 years but left to work within industry.  Dickinson will take on the role of senior accountant in the agricultural and rural affairs team.

FTI Consulting has appointed Mark Hunt as senior managing director in the firm’s forensic and litigation consulting practice, based in London. Hunt joins from BDO, where he led their financial services practice, which included conducting FCA/PRA skilled persons reviews, and was previously a partner at KPMG.

PwC is building up its debt and capital advisory business with the appointment of three experienced bankers. Barry Greyling joins as assistant director from Investec Debt Capital Markets. Louise O’Sullivan, who becomes an assistant director, joins from BNP Acquisition Finance and Ben Johnson, appointed as a manager, from RBS Leverage Finance.

Mercer & Hole has appointed a general practice partner, Ross Lane. An ACCA fellow, Lane spent 12 years with KPMG and for the last five years has been group financial controller of a market leading FTSE 250 group.

South west firm Thomas Westcott has hired Jon Mitchell to head its specialist business recovery and insolvency department based in Exeter. Mitchell, a licensed insolvency practitioner with over 10 years' experience, was previously at Bishop Fleming.

Price Bailey has made three senior appointments to its tax consulting team. Jay Sanghrajka joins the firm from Shipleys where he was an international tax partner. Jacqui Gudgion moves to Price Bailey from Grant Thornton after 25 years in both the tax and new business development teams. Richard Grimster was previously with Baker Tilly for eight years.

Law firm Eversheds has announced the appointment of HMRC tax and funds expert, John Buckeridge, who joins the firm as a consultant. Buckeridge was a policy and technical adviser on collective investments in HMRC’s financial products and services team.
