This week’s career moves sees KPMG growing family wealth team, tax disputes expert at OneEGroup, recognition for EY's Clack, graduate boost at BHP, partner hire at Haines Watts, UK representation on IFRS Foundation and CAQ appointment

Tax advisory firm, OneE Group has appointed Gary Cryer to its tax disputes and Investigations (TDI) division as a senior tax consultant. Cryer is an ex-inspector of taxes with over 40 years’ experience, and joins from Baker Tilly.       

KPMG has appointed Catherine Grum as head of the family office. She joins the Big Four firm from Salamanca Group where she was head of the private office, and will lead the development of a dedicated family office service within KPMG.  Grum was previously head of wealth advisory (EMEA) for Barclays Wealth & Investment Management, and has a background as a qualified solicitor and trust and estates practitioner.

EY partner and head of infrastructure advisory, Amanda Clack, has been named as one of the most influential women in construction and engineering at the 2015 Women in the City awards. The awards recognise women who are fulfilling a demanding role while also actively supporting the progress of women in their organisations and business sector. As winner in her category, Clack will be entered into the overall Woman of Achievement Award in November.

Haines Watts in Liverpool has hired David Waddington as a tax partner. Waddington brings 20 years of industry experience. 

BHP, Yorkshire’s largest independent firm of chartered accountants, has recruited 23 graduates, trainees and school leavers who will now train across five of the firm’s offices in Sheffield, Leeds, Cleckheaton, Chesterfield and York. This new intake of staff now makes BHP over 300 people strong. The company’s audit and accounts teams have appointed nine graduates including four who return to BHP after completing placement years at the firm.

The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation, responsible for the oversight and governance of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), have confirmed the appointment of eight new IFRS Advisory Council members and the re-appointment of eight existing members. UK representation has been boosted with the appointments of Andrew Marshall, senior technical partner, KPMG UK, replacing Egbert Eeftink; Colin McDonald, director of accounting policy at BlackRock, representing The Investment Association; Melanie McLaren, executive director, codes & standards, UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC); and John Stanford, acting technical director of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).

The US Center for Audit Quality has elected Catherine Engelbert, CEO of Deloitte, as its chairman. She succeeds Robert Moritz, chairman and senior partner at PwC US, who has finished a two-term period of service.

 A group of school leavers who began the same apprenticeship course together have all landed permanent jobs at credit checker Experian. Local quintet Alex Sanderson, Callum Gough, George Hardy, Ryan Wun and Will Haycox all took up apprenticeships at Experian aged 17-18.  They were part of the very first group of apprentices in the country to take on the CIMA Higher Apprenticeship in Management Accounting qualification in 2013.
