If you want to step up to the role of CFO, it is critical to start planning now, advises Margaret Ewing

The demands placed on chief financial officers have never been greater. The role and responsibilities have changed significantly over the decade and become increasingly complex. Heightened levels of scrutiny, increased accountability and a more active investor community have placed all directors, and the CFO in particular, under even greater pressure.

If you then add the complexities of today’s challenging credit and equity markets, and the extremely volatile and uncertain economic environment, it is no wonder that, to those aspiring or ‘in-waiting’, the burden and pressure of a CFO’s responsibilities appear awesome and a huge step-up from their current role.
