Richard Mannion: Capping IHT

Using IHT contributions to fund ever-increasing care costs of the UK’s growing elderly population will do nothing to resolve this in the long term

On 11 February the health minister Jeremy Hunt announced government plans to cap long-term care costs at £75,000, and also confirmed that the cost will be met in part by extending the freeze on the inheritance tax threshold at £325,000 by three years from 2015-16. I was somewhat surprised to find that the health secretary is now involved with setting tax policy.
