SEC head criticises ‘specious’ IFRS sustainability rules

The chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission has criticised IFRS sustainability standards, hinting at a review of use of IFRS accounting by non-US companies

William S Atkins, chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has questioned the rapidly growing remit of the IFRS Foundation and the creation of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), stressing that the special rules that exist for non-US companies to invest in the US capital markets may be put at risk due to mission creep at the global standard setter.
