Chancellor urged to end ‘circus’ of Budget speculation

Healey warned over past mistakes with leaks and speculation leading to billions of pounds being withdrawn early from pensions

One week into his role as chancellor, John Healey MP (pictured) has been warned over the mistakes of his predecessors.

The former defence secretary took over as chancellor after Rachel Reeves left the role following two years in the job.

Now, AJ Bell has warned Healey over what it called ‘damaging speculation’.

Tom Selby, director of public policy at AJ Bell, specifically called on the chancellor to ‘end damaging speculation on pension tax-free cash.’

‘The new chancellor’s number one objective should be to end the circus of Budget speculation we have seen in recent years, particularly in relation to pensions tax-free cash,’ Selby said.

The run-up to the most recent fiscal events was rife with speculation.
