Men's fashion retailer Gio Goi has entered administration, following swiftly the news that HMV, Blockbuster and Jessops have also called in administrators, and the latter ceased trading immediately.

KPMG has been appointed as administrator following months of difficult trading and the closure of the company's three high street stores in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Manchester in mid-2012. The closures were part of a restructuring programme to focus on online sales and distribution through specialist retailers.

KPMG administrator Jane Moriarty said: 'Following a restructuring programme last year, Gio Goi was unable to return to growth levels enjoyed up until 2009 and has become another victim of the recessionary environment. 'We are now looking to sell the business and assets, and will continue to satisfy customer orders pending a sale of the business.'

The majority of the staff have been made redundant.

There are reports that Sports Direct may pick up the business to add to its growing sports and leisure retail operation.
