The Supreme Court has ruled out extending legal privilege to tax accountants. Fiona Hotston Moore asks, what next?

For many qualified accountants giving tax advice, the decision of the Supreme Court not to extend legal professional privilege to accountants was disappointing but not unexpected. However, as the judges noted, the current position where a lawyer giving tax advice is able to claim legal privilege but an equally qualified tax accountant is not, is illogical.
