In a long running case, Jian Wen, 42, was found guilty of money laundering up to £2bn at Southwark Crown Court on 20 May 2023. She is due to be sentenced on 10 May.

The trial followed the UK’s largest ever seizure of Bitcoin valued at £2bn by the Metropolitan Police after officers found there was no legitimate evidence for how the cryptocurrency was obtained.

The police also linked the funds to an investment fraud in China, leading them to assume it was criminal property.

The original acquisition of the Bitcoin was undertaken by another suspect who is yet to be arrested and brought before the court.
