An Aberdeen restaurant owner has been jailed for a year after failing to pay HMRC over £50,000 in VAT
Masoud Mehri ran the Picolo restaurant in Aberdeen and previously admitted to committing VAT fraud.
He was given a 58-week custodial sentence at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after he was found guilty of VAT fraud.
An HMRC investigation found that between January 2012 and October 2015 Mehri did not pay the VAT due.
The fraud related to evasion of £52,254 in VAT which had been charged to diners at the restaurant but was never paid to HMRC.
A proceeds of crime hearing will be held later this month.
