Last week, as I attended the World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) in Rome, with colleagues from around the globe and every discipline of our profession and with all of their expertise, knowledge and experience gathered in one place, I felt as I’m sure many others did, at the heart of something of significance.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world something else of significance for our profession was occurring as leaders from the most powerful, rich and influential nations in the world gathered together. The G20 met in Australia, to discuss pressing issues from the Ebola crisis in West Africa, to their two main agenda items; stimulating economic growth and building economic resilience.
