York fashion retailer in administration

Andy Clay and David Acland of Begbies Traynor have been appointed joint administrators to independent upmarket fashion retailer Coggles.

Founded in York in 1974 as 'Sarah Coggles', the company had expanded to include an online retail business supplying more than 200 men's and women's designer collections from well-known fashion houses, new designers and international labels.

Around half of the retailer's 60 staff have been made redundant after attempts by the directors to restructure and win new investment failed and the company was placed in administration.

Andy Clay, joint administrator and director at Begbies Traynor , said: 'We are continuing to trade two of the York stores and the website as usual while we market the business. With its strong brand name and excellent reputation, we are optimistic that a buyer will be found and that Coggles will continue in some form.'
